Thanks to all of you who came out to help us celebrate excellence in Manila's dining scene and to everyone who made the event such a success!

Congratulations to the 2008 MBKRS Award recipients: Abe for Best Filipino Restaurant, People's Palace for Best Thai Restaurant, Sugi for Best Japanese Restaurant, Elbert's Steak Room for Best Steakhouse, L'Opera for Best Italian Restaurant, Terry's Selection for Best Spanish Restaurant, Je Suis Gourmand for Best French Restaurant, Lolo Dad's for Best Continental Cuisine, Zong for Best Chinese Restaurant, Old Swiss Inn for Best Central European Restaurant, Hossein's Persian Kebab for Best Specialty Restaurant, Sala Bistro for Best Bistro, Barcino Gourmet for Best Enoteca, M Café for Best Fusion Cuisine, Aubergine for Best Newcomer, NUVO for Best Restaurant/Bar, and Cav for Best Wine List.

Hotel restaurants were separated in their own categories with Spirals (Sofitel) triumphing as Best Hotel Restaurant – International Buffet, Benjarong (Dusit) as Best Hotel Restaurant – Specialty, and Tivoli (Mandarin Oriental) and Prince Albert (Intercontinental) tying for the award Best Hotel Restaurant – Fine Dining.

The award for Best Chef went to Lolo Dad’s Ariel Manuel, and wine mogul Tita Trillo emotionally presented the Lifetime Achievement award that to the late great Larry Cruz who recently passed away, a pioneer in theme restaurants such as Café Havana, Café Adriatico, Abé, Fely J’s Kitchen, Bistro Remedios, Bollywood Bistro Bar, Larry’s Café Bar, Mojito Bay, and In the Mood.

Award presenters included restaurant and media personalities Wendell Garcia, Lexi Schulze-Testa, Luis de Terry, Abba Napa, Michael Toledo, Tina Pamintuan, Koby Parcell, Sau del Rosario, Cristina Metelmann, Sergi Rostoll, Jermaine Brown, Tita Trillo, Jose Mari Ugarte and Katrina Tuason-Cruz.

Next year’s awards are gonna be even bigger and better! We expect to add new award categories, to double the number of judges, and to offer an even more lavish spread of great food and wine for guests to feast on!
